New Avenue's Hep Team sets national record

Challenge

To provide education and increase vaccination rates among gay and bi-sexual men against Hepatitis A and B.

Solution

New Avenue handled the left coast effort of the national Hep Team outreach program. The grassroots strategy is held seasonally every summer, hitting street festivals in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.

In each market, New Avenue managed the overall coordination of the program, including partnering with the local departments of health, scheduling the Hep Team at targeted community festivals and Pride Parades, and tent set-up and distribution of educational materials about Hepatitis A and B. The team’s main focus was to encourage gay and bi-sexual men to receive free on-site vaccination services provided by the local departments of health.

Prior to each festival, the Hep Team hit the streets with promotional brochures and flyers to build awareness and drive traffic to the booth on event day to get vaccinated.

If that wasn’t enough, New Avenue hired an extensively trained Educational Representative to visit more than 100 private practice doctors to provide collateral and educational materials about the importance of Hepatitis A and B vaccinations.

Results

During the 2007 LA Pride Festival, Los Angeles reported the single largest vaccination weekend in the nation with nearly 700 people vaccinated in two days.

Overall, the Hep Team increased year over year vaccinations by 25%!

Now that’s success.
